Other Characters Currently In-Game:
Character Name: Qifrey
Series: Witch Hat Atelier
Age: Qifrey's age is unknown but he's certainly in his late 20s and early 30s
From When?: the end of volume 12, near the end of the Silver Eve arc
Warden Justification: Qifrey brings a lot of skills from being a master witch that translate well to the role of warden, the first being a pretty high insight check and the ability to reach different people where they are how they need to be reached. Each of the girls that he teaches are different, with unique challenges and talents, and Qifrey both enjoys the challenge of and rises to the challenge of dealing with them the way that they need him to. His decision to take in Coco shows pretty firmly that he believes in second chances and helping someone do better. He comes from a society with extremely rigid rules and he has a complicated relationship with those rules and how he abides by them, but he's also good at managing to do it without causing excess problems. He has a lot more darkness and trauma in his past than you might expect from him, and he's certainly done a few questionable things in pursuit of his goals around those, so he'll have a more nuanced perspective than his gentle teacher persona might imply. He's also a MUCH craftier and nastier combatant than you'd expect, so he's got something to deal with whatever the Barge might throw at him.
Item: His palm quire. It will act as a compass, with the information appearing on the most recent page.
Abilities/Powers: Technically, the magic of Qifrey's world can be done by anyone. It's a HUGE deal, in fact, so Qifrey doesn't so much 'have' the ability to do magic, but he has extensive knowledge of and the skills and equipment to properly perform the magic of his world. More here, but the long and short of it is that it's a drawing-based system with glyphs/runes/symbols combined to produce results.
He's also a very good cook and he regularly keeps track of 4 teenage girls.
Wardening Strategies and Philosophies: Qifrey's adjustment to the Barge will be... complicated. Despite his very warm heart and open-handed approach, he can and does keep grudges and he can hold some serious ones against people and organizations that harm others. Thus, he might come to dislike some of the inmates who are more open about their shittiness until he, for some reason or another, is made to see their other side or deal with them as people. He can be a little self-righteous when his ire is up, but he does see his mistakes afterwards and he's more than willing to learn different if someone is willing to show him different. So I forsee a few rocky starts in places.
He's extremely used to living in a world and by a system that is ostensibly good but sometimes fucks over certain people and has few accommodations for others because 'that's just how the Barge is'. It is a frustration for him, but one he can and does live with, even though he'll probably find all the loopholes he can to help people he sees who need it. He'll take his role as warden extremely seriously and see his position as having a lot of responsibility when it comes to the safety of inmates as well as helping them to learn and grow towards their graduation.
Qifrey tends to engage people by helping them reframe their difficulties, help them see through a different perspective to find the solution. While he is extremely loyal to those he loves, protective and encouraging in equal measure, he can and will be a little duplicitous when it serves his needs. He has no problem showing one face and feeling different or keeping secrets, even if his affection and warmth is not a show.
Strengths-wise, he's very good at getting a feel for someone's challenges and helping them find ways to overcome them without losing the core of who they are. He believes very much in the beauty and wonder of an individual's abilities, after all. Weakness-wise, he may come off as too soft and his unwillingness to let someone in may turn off some inmates who need someone on their level who's very open. Qifrey is many things but while he is earnest and caring, he is NOT open.
He'd probably be best with someone who's needs bolstering or support, the kind of inmate who doesn't think they're worth or potential would allow them to go or do what they want and it sent them down a dark path. He's great at finding alternate solutions or helping people to find their own alternate solutions. Those seeking vengeance might come a little close to his own issues (cause he's done a couple of less-than-great things around seeking his own revenge) but it's possible they could learn together and help each other. Worst, really, would be the ones who came from power and privilege and only got worse. He wouldn't have a lot of patience for them.
Deal: The healthy return of his missing eye.
History: Qifrey @ Witch Hat Wiki
Sample Network Entry: 5-10 sentences of spoken/written monologue, not including narration. This sample should reflect the character's day-to-day behavior and a distinctive voice, and must be Barge setting specific. You are permitted to link a thread from the Test Drive Meme, as long as it's recent (within 3 months of application date) and in network style.
